It’s no longer a fringe disease affecting a certain type of people with non-conformist lifestyles – gays, people with multiple sex partners, and drug addicts. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome is now a health problem for mainstream society.The human immunodeficiency virus and AIDS epidemic in the country is crossing over to the general population as female sex workers have contributed significantly to the number of HIV/AIDS cases, the Philippine National AIDS Council has reported.
“After more than 30 years, the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the country is crossing to the general population,” according to PNAC Secretariat chief Ferchito Avelino.
“In the past, we were limited to the MSM (men having sex with men) and PWID (people who inject drugs) population. But now we have the bridge from the high-risk population to the general population.The PNAC official said female sex workers could spread the AIDS virus faster, not only because they could have multiple sex partners but also because their partners could spread the virus to others.
He said commercial sex workers do not comply with the government requirement to undergo regular screening for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.Such csw are so much mixed in society that they are no more restricted to brothels and red light areas but now even college girls and boys,workers of different high or medium paid commercial houses and middle class people enjoys so much parties and celebrations or upcomig living relations or growing molestations or sexual offences like rapes and sodomies on childrens or in prison or miggratory labors ,truck drivers and in barracks that open sex is common more due to easy availability of such stuff in hotels,room,houses,farm houses and in party lawn and even at working place.
Therefore it is time to test for every body otherewise we may miss abig chunk to diagnose hiv/aids as most of them hardly submit for testing assuming such educated or highly economised stuff as fresh without having any hiv ,on the contrary they are mostly infected and spread the infection silently to the common person in the society.
