India has the third largest HIV epidemic in the world. In 2013, HIV prevalence in India was an estimated 0.3 percent. This figure is small compared to most other middle-income countries but because of India's huge population (1.2 billion) this equates to 2.1 million people living with HIV. In the same year, an estimated 130,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses.Overall,India’s HIV epidemic is slowing down, with a 57 percent decline in new HIV infections between 2000 and 2011,and a 29 percent decline in AIDS-related deaths between 2007 and 2011.BUT these datas are also questionable ,in practical with so much opening of middle and upper poor class society of free living, living in relations, more demand for sex, parties, use of alcohol, substance, drug, parties and celebration where sex is mostly done in hide or growing poverty, unemployment compelling some to accept sex as profession of criminal intimidation where sex is purchased by force or allurement,IT APPEARS THESE DATAS ARE NOT CORRECT ONE AS MOST MIDDLE AND UPPER CLASS RARELY ATTEND GOVERNMENT ART OR pctc or DROPPING CENTRES TO GET DIAGNOSED OR TREATED FOR HIV OR STDs.
HIV prevalence in India varies geographically. The five states with the highest numbers of people living with HIV (Andhra Pradesh, Telengana,Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu) are in the south of the country and account for 53 percent of all HIV infections. However, HIV prevalence is falling in these states on papers.By comparison, in some states in the north and northeast of the country,MANIPUR,MIZORAM,NAGALAND etc the number of new HIV infections is rising.
Health workers working in different SACS under NACO in Telengna and andhrapradesh has not received salary for last 10 months, same way state of karnataka,Maharashtra,,Tamil nadu, and even Delhi, hariyana are affected,Gujrat and Maharashtra curtailed peer workers by 80% and Outreach workers by 25% due to lack of funds by central government.
Many diagnostic kits are not available or of short expiry in many Hiv detection centres and even in ART centres lack of medicines is present and adequate amount of condom is not present.
Although Centre Government states that Rs.274 crores of rupees released in 15-16 only 08 states utilised it and because of late supply of condom and medicines by suppliers and producers is responsible for delay of medicines and diagnostic kits although stock will never exhaust.
But in reality Health workers working as counsellors,Lab technicians,Computer staffs, office staff ,data recorders and other staffs of Dropping centres and treatment centres are suffering.
