Hi Friends, I wanted to ask regarding a white spot on body. Actually my friend has few white spots on face (on lips, below lips & nose, just below finger nails and on elbow). She got this as a side effect of some medicine she was taking for Malaria 2 years back. I wanted ask you that is it something non-recoverable or is it recoverable? If it is non-recoverable does it mean her child will also have those white spot? Please reply me... Thank you in advance, Ashish Panchal.
Dear Mr. Ashish,
Vitiligo may have been triggered by a stressful event eg. malaria as in your friend and should not be considered as a side effect of the drug per se. Moreover, there are many treatments available and it is important to start treatment as early as possible as the chances of recovery as well as prevention of spread are more. Though there are chances that children of these parents may get vitiligo, they are small and genetic studies are underway.

HI,
I understand that many people have questions to ask for this highly stigmatised skin condition. Moreover let us create an online community where people can talk freely about their vitiligo and share their experiences. Participation from both doctors and patients will be highly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Warm regards,
Sujata
