I suspect, my post may have no relevance - but I have to say it. I am in Australia for a year and have been recently immunized to Swine Flu. Being a surgeon in a major hospital gave me the oppurtunity of getting the vaccine immediately after it was released. The amount of interest the government took in trying to control this malady is phenomenal. Getting tthe vaccine developed, tested and manufactured in record time speaks volume of the vision of the Australian Government!

Lets talk about India - I billion people to 20 million in Australia. The outbreak was almost at the same time, when it was seen in the western world. Population at risk was significant. I read up about lot of people falling prey to the virus and some succumbing to it. What did the Government do? NO VACCINE IS ON THE ANVIL! There is no news from the government about the policy, plan and future strategies for the management of this disease. The Government has not been able to get the diagnostic facilities set up in all the medical colleges of the country. And the press as usual has not kept the issue alive to keep pressure on the government. Apathy or just plain failure of medical administrative machinery in the country!?
