Ayurved
Ayurved is the oldest (around 5000 B.C.) type of wholistic approach to medicine. The Ayurvedic texts are one of the oldest texts which are available to us. Ayurved is sub-division of Atharv-ved which mentions about various chantings and medicines and the treatment protocols. Ayurved is derived from two Sanskrit words, 'Ayu', that means life and 'Ved' which means study. So, hereby, ayurved means the study of life. The study of life does not mean 'life' alone but also emphasis on the methods which prolong life which includes the following:-
  • Do's and Dont's of our daily and seasonal routine.
  • What are the possible effects and diseases which can affect us whenever we dont follow these daily routines?
  • How to cure these diseases?
  • How can we prevent the disease from these preventive measures?
  • How can we add up all the sciences collectively to live longer?

Ayurveda answers all these questions about life. Now the question arises, what is the importance of longeivity of life. Ofcourse, life is important to all of us, but whats the need to live longer without a disease? This is essentially because of two reasons:-

  • One is to enjoy life fully and do some work which is in favor of humanity.
  • Second is to meditate and to attain moksha (coming out of the cycle of life and death).

Just like allopathy or modern medicine has many branches, Ayurved too have 8 branches which are listed below:-

  • Kaychikitsa (Medicine) which deals with treatment and prevention of various diseases related to body and mind.
  • Bal Rog or Kaumar-bhritya (Pediatrics) which deals with all types of diseases which especially occur in children.
  • Grah (science of super-natural phenomenon) which deals with the preventive measures, diseases and problems related with the supernatural powers.
  • Urdhav-ang (ENT) which deals with the diseases which occur in eye, ear, nose and throat also it deals with diseases of head.
  • Shalya (Surgery) deals with the diseases which are only cureable with surgery.
  • Danshtra (Toxicology) The science of poisons, their affects on humans and other animals and their treatments.
  • Jara (Rejuvination) Science which deals with old age, its prevention and how to rejuvinate from old age towards younger age.
  • Vrish the science which deals with sex, how to increase sexual power and how to make human progeny free of errors.
