MEDITATION VS MEDICATION          

 

Meditation and medication, are they different?

Medication is needed as a substance given through any route to palliate or cure a disease or its symptoms.

Meditation itself is also a medication, of mind..

Our ancient thoughts have already told us about mind body connection. So when the mind is palliated the body gets its benefit too. And the body is the vehicle to pursue our dreams and fulfill our role in the society. Meditation is the exercise of the body to stabilize the mind, focus it and thereby making it more receptive to the voices within.

The body is made to take one position, relax and withdraw from any sensory inputs which might disturb it. So, when one s super ego makes the mind and the body calm and focused the physical, chemical and meta physical homeostasis i.e. the correct balance of all life forces within is achieved.

Meditation is not concentration. Many are afraid of it probably to face their own self, but just like a surgeon must prepare his patients for operation, a guru or teacher prepares us for meditation. He teaches us intelligent self review of our self and our surroundings. He trains our bodies and mind to withdraw from all 5 sensory experiences and focus all these 5 within.

The god is within us in the form of all the goodness which manifests within us. So through meditation this goodness is allowed to bloom inside us and it comes out not only through our 5 senses but the 6th sense which directs all our action. One finds a true friend within to whom he can talk to and listen. His anxieties get quieted, agitations are pacified and thus peace and confidence that floods one’s mind makes us do things which lead to good health joy and success, just as a painkiller’s injection immediately relieves the patient of his pain. So this art of meditation like lens focuses all our energies to heal the mind and wipe out the forces of self doubt, laziness, fear which prevents us from action.

Yoga means to have the perfect coordination between the chariot which is the body, the passenger which is our own self and charioteer which is the super self within, which is the key factor which drives our lives. How can one drive a vehicle without focused coordination between steering wheel, brakes and accelerator?

Meditation rehabilitates the man’s broken will to fight the disease from within. It helps him to take actions like proper food, medicines and avoidances prescribed by expert physicians. The inner calm within helps him modulate his immunity by various neuro chemical transmitters cell mediated and chemical immune responses.

Meditation and medication can compared with 2 strands of DNA helix, connected by all the vehicles of perfect homeostasis. This leads to perfect health.

The kind and expert physician prescribes a bouquet of medications in various forms according to the disease, its stage and suitability to the patient after a deep thought. It does benefit the recipient but the medication makes the recipient more open to the benefits of medication and adds and supplements the actions of the medications which is to achieve a near perfect homeostasis taking the body and mind as far away from the disease and its effects as possible.

Meditation is that extra energy which drives us towards good health.

Thus, meditation and medication are like two stripes of railway track, separated perpetually, but perpetually together leading us to perfect health and recovery.
