MULJIBHAI PATEL UROLOGICAL HOSPITAL JAYARAMDAS PATEL ACADEMIC CENTRE Micro PCNL 27 - 28 May 2011 A two-day programme on ‘Micro PCNL’ (Percutaneous nephrolithotomy) is being held at the Jayaramdas Patel Academic Centre (JPAC), Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital, Nadiad during May 27 – 28, 2011. PCNL is a procedure for removing medium-sized or larger renal calculi (kidney stones) from the patient's urinary tract. The purpose of PCNL is the removal of renal calculi in order to relieve pain, bleeding into or obstruction of the urinary tract, and/or urinary tract infections resulting from blockages. Kidney stones range in size from microscopic groups of crystals to objects as large as golf balls. Most calculi, however, pass through the urinary tract without causing problems. Micro PCNL procedure is an effective method of removing kidney stones as in one procedure one can remove all of them during a short period of hospitalization. Even in difficult situations like ectopic kidneys, calyceal diverticulums, etc., it would be safer to do Micro PCNL. The course will enhance the participants’ skills of PCNL reducing its morbidity and help to render patients the best possible treatment with significantly less morbidity and acceptable stone clearance. All aspects of Micro PCNL will be thoroughly discussed and debated. There will be live surgery & transmission. The programme will be chaired by Dr. Mahesh Desai, Medical Director & Managing Trustee of MPUH and Dr. Markus Bader from Germany will be participating as an international faculty. Others who will be making presentations include Dr. R B Sabnis, Chairman, Department of Urology, and Dr. Shashikant Mishra, MPUH. 0-0-0-0 joseph anthony purathur
