LOVE AND NAMASMARAN: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

Love between; relations such as husband and wife, mother and baby; have always been the central themes of many great novels, plays, films, paintings, sculptures, dances, poetry etc. But in all these; love is also associated with treachery, cheating, hatred, dread and vengeance.

Why is this so?

This is because; this involuntary love and hate phenomenon; is a product of physiological, biochemical, psychological and social factors. Love and hate result from the involuntary autonomic, neuroendocrine, endocrine and metabolic activities. Such love and hate happens to most of us. It is not �done� by us.

This love and hate phenomenon determines our attitudes, predispositions, ideologies, behavior, consciousness and conscience. Through NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, JIKRA, SIMARAN, SUMIRAN; i.e. remembering true self) this phenomenon blossoms into objective, unprejudiced and selfless love without hatred. It is like oxygen that enables and empowers us; to perceive the world more objectively and provide holistic solutions to individual and global problems.

This process of individual and universal blossoming; however; involves billions of us (as is being increasingly evident in many parts of world) and consumes us completely; to our satisfaction; and is not accessible to casual, superficial or mercenary approach!

Guru: You may ask your question.

Disciple: My Lord, theoretically; I agree that all �my� prayers, "my" NAMASMARAN and �my� work; belong to you; as you are the soul; of �my" whole existence!

But practically; I am always ridden in stress; emerging from some unidentified, indefinite, and unknown source! It may be one or many things; ranging from my genotype, phenotype, metabolic activities, hormonal interactions, neurological events and psychological phenomena, including the changing; external (physical, chemical, biological, psychological, political, social, religious etc) atmosphere!

Sometimes I feel; that my stress; is a part of the pandemic of stress spread ubiquitously in the world; and hence; can be rectified through universalization of NAMASMARAN! But universalization of NAMASMARAN (and its potential); as well as; the anticipated or foreseen emergence of holistic renaissance; are �unending and never complete�! Hence; the idea of �complete rectification� of the pandemic of stress; is as illusory; as the pandemic of stress itself!

Being inseparable from this illusion; I am in stress and want to know whether stress management is a reality or illusion!

Guru: Indeed; your stress; is a part of the pandemic of stress spread ubiquitously in the world; and hence; you have to go through the practice and universalization of NAMASMARAN (and its potential); to usher in holistic renaissance, even if they are �never ending and ever incomplete� and hence appear illusory!
My dear friend! Stress is a magic of remembrance (NAMASMARAN) and forgetfulness (NAMAVISMARAN)! Being totally involved in NAMASMARAN; is total stress management; and being in NAMAVISMARAN to a variable extent; is being in stress! Through the process of practicing and promoting NAMASMARAN; and its benevolent and pivotal role; in holistic renaissance; at appropriate time; you will be totally involved; in NAMASMARAN (state of total stress management) and hence; zero NAMAVISMARAN (zero stress)!

One of the doubts about the practice of NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, JIKRA, SUMIRAN and SIMARAN i.e. remembering and/or reciting the name [NAMA] of God); is; How can we practice NAMASMARAN; when we are involved in intellectual work (and not merely physical)?
The answer is; as follows.
Self realization; is actually a process of nullifying our subjectivity or individuality; and being one with our core! This is a tricky process! If we try to nullify our subjectivity arbitrarily; then we tend lose our core; and become listless losers. If we try to catch hold of our core voluntarily; then we usually land up in bloated ego and maniacal behavior. Thus through �our� efforts; we tend be entangled in; depression and melancholy or maniacal obsession; irrespective of; or at the cost of others!
In both cases we remain far away from our SELF.
NAMASMARAN; begun with a practice of 5 minutes per day; even if it is without any understanding; gradually reduces the time; of our intellectual, emotional and instinctual involvement; in pettiness and superficiality; and transforms our individualistic (and fragmented and sectarian) perspective, thinking, feelings and instincts; into holistic or objective. This marks our ascent towards our SELF i.e. being one with our core.
In the course of time; as we ascend up; the glimpses of our immortality; begin to expose the redundancy of all our activities; including our intellectual efforts! Gradually the proportion of personal pleasures, entertainments, profiteering and intellectual engagements; and the practice of NAMASMARAN reverses.
NAMASMARAN becomes a major activity! We begin to be restless; without NAMASMARAN. We being to feel secure and comfortable in NAMASMARAN and be a part of universally benevolent spiritual dynamism!
At this point we begin to understand; why our guru preached NAMASMARAN; with so much of intensity! We begin to realize; how and why our goal of life is; total and loving involvement in NAMASMARAN!

The source of thoughts, feelings, instincts and the life itself is called God, NIRVANA, MOKSHA, BRAHMA etc. This source is variously described as being the source of universe, energy, space and time and omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent. NAMA, GOD or GURU; the immortal blissful source of everything; triggers; the spring of universal spiritual dynamism, thousands of holistic concepts, thousands of creative activities and thousands of missions; as a small fraction of His omnipotence!
He pulls us towards itself; through endowment of NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, JIKRA, SUMIRAN, and SIMARAN; i.e. remembering and/or reciting NAME (NAMA) of God).
This NAMA i.e. GURU i.e. GOD; empowers us; to practice NAMASMARAN, evolve holistic concepts, dedicate for global welfare and do; all our so called good or bad activities.
When we begin to experience this; we realize the contingent, subjective, trivial and evanescent nature; of the so called great forces and powers; and obviously also; of �our� concepts, �our� feelings and �our� life itself!
As a result; we become humbler and begin to practice NAMASMARAN more thankfully! We become increasingly free of anxiety, worry and fear! This is the successful beginning of going; beyond ALL STRESS!

Even as NAMASMARAN is admired, appreciated and advised by hundreds of saints; apparently; few fortunate are haunted by the mystery of NAMA, fewer pursue it; and still fewer persist on it! Out of those, who persist; very few are convinced of its cosmic benevolence; and take upon them; to spread the glory of NAMA.

But the experience, conviction and joy of NAMA; go on multiplying and deepening; in everyone; without exception! The beginners as well as the veterans; all; have a spontaneous spring of ambrosia (though in the depths of heart and hence not easily apparent); to manifest and nurture the mankind and the universe; at appropriate time.

This is because; the practice of NAMASMARAN is actually; like �digging within�! Hence; in the course of time (and at appropriate time); the spring of ambrosia begins to break open into an indescribable, innate fountain of universally benevolent ecstasy!

It is preferable however; not to believe or disbelieve; in all this; but to verify; the power of NAMASMARAN; by practicing it!
